Sanford Biggers: Moon Medicine

Regular price $45.00

Moon Medicine serves as the first scholarly publication chronicling the work of highly acclaimed artist, Sanford Biggers.

The first-ever scholarly exhibition catalog dedicated to Sanford Biggers, despite significant international accolades prior, this publication highlights the diverse, multidisciplinary practice that is indicative of his work. A constellatory look at primarily new works, the exhibition examines ideas culminating from a range of influences: African American history, Hip Hop culture, Italian Baroque sculpture, Japanese Zen Buddhism, Caribbean Vodoun, to name a few.

Depicting the drawing, sculpture, photography, installation, performance, and video of the exhibition at SBCAF, as well as previous works, the catalog assembles not only the pieces themselves, but elements of reference and definition that contribute meaning to each piece. With the fluidity and complexity of meaning, Biggers’ work reflects simultaneously the Black American experience, a singular, unique journey, and a universal narrative.

More recently, Biggers has gone on to show at numerous exhibitions including Brooklyn Museum, Sculpture Center, and Mass MoCA, while working as Associate Professor at Columbia University's Visual Arts program. This catalog serves as the first scholarly publications chronicling Biggers’ work.
